Most of the photographs on Deja Vu Photographic were taken with a PENTAX SP Spotmatic . This is a totally manual camera, which is now around 30 years old. I used this camera between 1995-2002.
At the end of 2002 I updated to a NIKON F100 which in the short time I've been using it has also produced some fine photographs, see New Images . My favorite lens at the moment is the 18-35mm f3.5- 4.5D (IF). This is not the top Nikon wide-angle lens, as it tends to distort the image quite severely. While this may not suit many photographers, it is ideal for many of my black and white nudes and architectural photographs that are a distortion of reality.
For my studio photographs (see Portraiture) I use a very basic set up due to lack of space. I use a rocket studio flash and soft box, and multiple reflectors. I usually use a high-powered halogen lamp for a background or hair light. I use a MINOLTA auto meter IV f to read the exposures.

For black and white photography I usually use KODAK T-Max 100 film. Recently however I have been experimenting with AGFA Agfapan APX 100. For color photography I had been using FUJI Reala 100 negative film. I'm now primarily using Fuji Sensia 100 and Velvia 100 positive film.

In September 2003, I purchased a Pentax 645N, with a standard 75mm auto-focus lens. The fast autofocus system has been very useful for my fashion/portraiture photography. This camera has many of the features you would expect to find on any modern 35mm SLR camera such as multi-segment metering, center-weighted metering and spot metering. In fact this camera behaves and feel more like a large 35mm camera than a traditional medium format camera. Another useful feature is the data imprinting which appears at the bottom of the negative under the image. This information includes the number of frames, shutter speed, aperture, focal length of lens, metering mode and exposure compensation value. The 45-85mm F4.5 , which is a wide angle to normal lens also useful for nudes and architecture.. Lastly the 80-160mm F4.5. which I use for fashion and portraiture.
Recently I've purchased the f4.5 33-55mm lens which is the widest medium format lens available . It appears that distortion is quite minimal with this lens , making it ideal for architectural photography as well as creative nudes and portraiture.
In December 2004 , I purchased the Nikon D70 digital camera. I believe this is the best value digital camera , with professional features on the market . As I already had Nikon lenses for my F100 it was the perfect choice for my first digital . See portraiture pages 1, 2, 3 as most of these photos were taken with the D70.

Since I moved to Budapest in 2008 I set up a small studio with 3 flash heads with various attachments 3 soft boxes of various sizes one with an egg crate for greater directional control of the light . Barn doors with 3 different color gels and honeycomb plus a snoot. These I like to use for high contrast black and white photography, especially nudes. I also have a couple of umbrellas that I don¡¦t use often unless I¡¦m trying to burn out a white backdrop for a color or black and white portrait.

In 2009 I updated from the Nikon D70 to the Nikon D90, and so far have been very impressed with the results. I have used it for a variety of work, i.e. documentary, portraiture, nudes and magazine work. The 12mp D90 allows for huge excellent quality prints.

The black and white shooting option, with various choices of digital color filters such as red, yellow, orange, green has also produced some surprisingly nice high contrast black and white shots. When shooting in RAW the image in the playback will appear black and white but once the image is downloaded to your PC it will appear in color, where you can covert the image to black and white with a greater degree of precision.

The D90 has identical or slightly better image quality than the D300, the exact same LCD screen at the back, and adds several really useful features for better handling compared to the D300.

This camera is also one of the first DSLR¡¦s to offer video capability, and although its a nice bonus to have, the downside is there¡¦s no auto focus which makes it tough to use on anything moving.

One other useful feature worth mentioning is the cameras self cleaning sensor mechanism. I had lots of problems with dirt and dust getting on the sensor on the D70, so I was pleased to see this advance in technology, which shakes off the dust every time you turn on or off your camera.
